Marvin Hagler, the middleweight boxing nice whose title reign and profession ended with a split-decision loss to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987, died Saturday. He was 66.

“I’m sorry to make a really unhappy announcement,” she wrote. “At this time sadly my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin handed away unexpectedly at his dwelling right here in New Hampshire. Our household requests that you simply respect our privateness throughout this troublesome time.”
Hagler was 62-Three-2 with 52 knockouts from 1973 to 1987. He was the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to his loss to Leonard at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on April 6, 1987.
The fierce left-hander had two of his greatest victories at Caesars Palace, unanimously outpointing Roberto Duran in 1983 and knocking out Thomas Hearns within the third spherical in 1985.
Hagler was born in Newark, New Jersey, and moved together with his household to Brockton, Massachusetts, within the late 1960s. He was inducted into the Worldwide Boxing Corridor of Fame and World Boxing Corridor of Fame in 1983.
